At a recent concert to honour Lord David Rowe-Beddoe, RWCMD’s late Chairman Laureate, world-renowned actor Sir Ian McKellen, announced the naming of the College’s Shakespeare Prize in his memory.

Open to second year BA Acting students, this annual award of £5,000 recognises their technical ability with verse and their connection with character and situation. The students have worked with Welsh actor Sir Jonathan Pryce and finalists have been selected to benefit from individual masterclasses with him and to compete for this ultimate prize.

The final of this prestigious prize will take place at the Royal Court Theatre, London on the 3 March 2025. The finalists will perform a Shakespeare speech and a sonnet in front of an audience and esteemed panel of judges, with the winner announced at the event.

We very much hope that you can join us to support the finalists in what promises to be a wonderful event.
