Ahead of International Women’s Day, First of March is releasing an exclusive recording with Bethan Gray and First of March Makers - extraordinary women working in the world of luxury design and craft.
We explore how femininity impacts and influences their work - both the stories they choose to tell in their designs and craftsmanship, as well as the relationships they build with customers, clients and partners in global collaborations.
Each with their own perspective and style, we ask if specific social, cultural and perhaps political statements can or should be made in design, and we discover the opportunities and challenges an evolving business world offers to women designers and makers.
Originally from Cardiff, London-based Bethan Gray is one of the UK’s most celebrated furniture and homeware designers having been awarded four Elle Decoration British Design Awards. She holds an honorary Fellowship at Cardiff Metropolitan University where she established a Women in Craft Award.
She is joined by First of March Makers - Sculptor Angela Farquharson, Glass architect Catrin Jones, RCA student and QEST scholar Suzanna James of Suzanna James Knitwear and Georgina Lester of Charles and Patricia Lester, specialists in textile art - all of whom can be found at firstofmarch.com
