After last year's successful networking event, the Embassy of Switzerland in London is delighted to join Wales Week London again in 2023 to pre-celebrate St. David’s Day with our Welsh friends. We aim to bring together Welsh and Swiss guests from politics, academia and culture, as well as large and small companies from various industries that have connections with Wales and Switzerland.
A fundamental value of Switzerland, and in particular of our Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis, is the concept of ‘unity in diversity’. This is true for both the United Kingdom and Switzerland in our respective institutional set-ups. It is important to celebrate cultural and linguistic heritage and we therefore look forward to the forthcoming St. David’s Day celebrations during Wales Week London.
The Secretary of State for Wales has accepted to be part of the event and will give a welcome / keynote address after the welcome of the Ambassador.
As a cultural programme for event, we be highlighting the parallels between fostering and promoting the Romansch / Grishun language, and the efforts made to maintain and promote the Welsh culture and language in the UK.
To this end, we will invite representatives from Wales and from Grishun to come and present their language and culture to the audience and highlight the importance of keeping these cultures alive.
This will be accompanied by a culinary experience of some local foods from Grishun, a small exhibition on Grishun culture and language, and a slide show of photos and facts about Grishun to convey a visual impression of the region.
The event will finish at 6.00pm.
