What if Mean Girls was set in a church?

A Welsh church.

And what if The Plastics were three sharp-tongued Welsh women who live for gossip, bickering and Tipping Point reruns?

Welcome to Pews at Ten.

On the front pew of St David’s Cathedral sit Meryl, Dylis and Rona — pillars of their community, friends to many, and the unofficial information service of the town. Perfectly content with their routines and their nose firmly in everyone else’s business, their world is turned upside down when news breaks of a very special Saturday… and a very special guest.

Suddenly they’re grappling with NDAs (what order do the letters go in?), hors d’oeuvres (how do you say it?) and the bumbling presence of David — a newcomer who may or may not qualify as “local” (can an Englishman ever really be one?). Chaos follows. So does laughter. And possibly… a sex bomb.

Driven by whip-smart dialogue and razor-sharp wit, Pews at Ten is a joyous, slapstick whirlwind with an authentic Welsh voice at its heart. Tender, cutting and ultimately uplifting, it’s a love letter to our elders, our communities and the bonds that hold them together. Some leave. Some return. But Meryl, Dylis and Rona remain.

About Novem Ensemble

Novem Ensemble are a collective of fresh-faced creatives and recent graduates of East 15 Acting School, united by a love of the wild, the whimsical and the gloriously silly. Their work is driven by personal roots, untold stories and a passion for making audiences laugh, cry — or cry laughing.

Pews at Ten premiered at East 15’s Launch Festival before heading home to St David’s for a sold-out run filled with “utter joy”. With performances planned at a long-running Welsh creative festival — and ambitions stretching as far as Edinburgh — the company are thrilled to keep this show alive and share it with new audiences.

A heartwarming, hilarious celebration of Welshness, gossip, community… and the power of the front pew.
