On the first day of Wimbledon 1981, ailing superstar, Richard Burton (then 56) arrives to stay with his sister Cis at her home in North London to recuperate from a life-saving spinal operation and meets his 19 year old grand-nephew Guy.
As Richard needs to get the car over to his home in Switzerland he asks Guy to drive it with himself as passenger… To add a little romance to the mix, he invites the girl to whom Guy has hopelessly lost his heart, Helen of Swansea - so he can play Cupid… The 12 day excursion becomes the defining event of young Guy's life as the three of them drive off into the sunset.
They forge an unlikely friendship while watching the tennis. (This is the year of John McEnroe) Richard has inexplicably purchased a Red Mini Cooper S but finds that he is too weak to drive it, so Guy takes the wheel.
