Cartref yn y Ddinas is our bi-monthly open mic hosted at the London Welsh Centre - 11th March is our next one!

Are you looking for a space to call home in the Big Smoke? Are you a Welshie looking to connect with others in the city? Or are you a creative looking for a safe space to experiment with some poetry, singing or comedy? If so, Cartref yn y Ddinas is the place for you!

We welcome anyone with a connection to Welshness, whether you've lived in Wales for the last twenty years or if you've just about heard of Gavin and Stacey! If you've visited once on holiday or dared your flatmate twice-removed to pronounce llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Our host will introduce each act, Performers are given a 10-15 min slot (running order published on the night).

We’re open to a wide range of acts: poetry, spoken word, singing, dancing, improv, comedy, juggling…up to you!

Basic PA system, mic & keyboard, lighting (pink/red colour wash, no blackout) will be provided.

Tickets are £5, which guarantee entry as well as a raffle ticket in traditional community hall style. Buy online or on the door!

Performers attend for free (but can optionally purchase a raffle ticket for £3) and you can either sign up by emailing admin@purplestringproductions.com, messaging @purplestringproductions on Instagram or registering on the night!

There will be a 20 min interval halfway through the evening (you are welcome to buy a raffle ticket during this time if you haven’t got one already).

Profits go directly towards the raffle prize, supporting the overhead costs of Purple String Productions: a Working-Class, Disabled/Neurodivergent-led company, bridging Wales and London.

Join us for a warm, welcoming and exciting evening!
