The Gallery Yr Oriel Newport Pembs is hosting its 9th Welsh Art Week, which is a very exciting opportunity for an established selection of Welsh art to be seen in one venue in London, to celebrate Welsh culture through art.
This year a theme running through the new work will embrace 'Conservation', and the importance of raising awareness to protect our environment through art.
This exhibition coinciding with St David's Day will host several days of art events, book launches and Welsh cultural evenings, and we are delighted once again to be part of Wales Week London, promoting everything Welsh in the city.
We have a very exciting line up, on March 1st at 7.30pm, our launch evening is being opened by Jamie Owen, Welsh author and broadcaster as our first event, talking about his Pembrokeshire book, and also hosting Welsh Harpist Marian O'Toole, who will be playing traditional Welsh music.
On Thursday 2nd March, we will be welcoming a Welsh, award-winning, young harpist - Heledd Wynn Newton, studying music at Oxford University and harp with Catrin Finch. Heledd won at Llangollen International Eisteddfod in 2022, and numerous prizes in local music festivals and the National Eisteddfod.
We will also be talking to Fine Art Graduate students from Pembrokeshire college, whose work we are showcasing for Welsh Art Week.
We are also delighted to be serving the award-winning Welsh cakes and Llaethlliw Welsh wine from their Aberearon vineyard; an excellent choice of refreshments to accompany guests viewing the art work!
The Welsh Art Week Exhibition will be on for 5 days from 28th February, 10.00am until 5.00pm daily, and will close on Saturday 4th March at 3pm. We look forward to welcoming you!
