Title: Belgian Refugee Musicians in Mid-Wales During the First World War
The outbreak of the First World War in August 1914 resulted in a large number of Belgians fleeing their country. Of the one million or so refugees, about 110,000 came to Britain. The Davies family of Llandinam decided to invite artists and musicians from Belgium to settle in Mid-Wales and this lecture explores the intriguing narrative of the Belgian refugee musicians who were supported through the patronage of the Davies sisters, Gwendoline and Margaret.
The lecture is free and all are most welcome to attend.
