Gareth Edwards is film director, film producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, production designer, and visual effects artist. He first gained widespread recognition for Monsters (2010), an independent film in which he served as writer, director, cinematographer, and visual effects artist. He subsequently directed the 2014 reboot of Godzilla, and the epic space opera film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), the first in the Star Wars Anthology series.

Gareth was a BAFTA Brit to Watch in 2011 and was part of the BAFTA-winning visual effects team behind the 2006 Hiroshima docu-drama, having been nominated in 2011 for Horizon.
He was also nominated for the BAFTA Outstanding Debut By A British Writer, Director or Producer Awards in 2011.

Edwards was born in Warwickshire to Welsh parents and visits his extended family in Wales regularly.

Edwards directed Rogue One, the first Star Wars stand-alone film, written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy, starring Felicity Jones, and released on 16 December 2016.

This event is a fundraising evening for BAFTA Cymru's educational activities in Wales.
